D0 Detector

D0 Detector small 

Like most collider detectors, the D0 detector consists of a variety of individual components that are used to identify and measure the particles produced in the proton-antiproton collisions:

  • a tracking system immersed in a magnetic field parallel to the beam pipe for precise vertexing and momentum measurement of charged particles,

  • electromagnetic and hadronic calorimetry for the measurement of electron, photon, and jet energies and directions, and

  • a muon system embedded in a toroidal magnetic field for muon identification and standalone momentum measurement.
